School Day

Information about the usual school day, including wrap around care, holiday clubs, school clubs and enrichment activities, can be found below. Changes due to the current situation will continue to be shared with parents.

Kindergarten day

7.30-8.00am The Kindergarten day begins for those who have an early start (24 hours notice required*)
8.00-8.30am Kindergarten children who have an early start are taken to the School Hall to have breakfast
8.30-9.00am Start of the Core Day session
9.00-11.45am Once all the children have been welcomed into the setting, activities (adult or children-led) begin
10.15am Morning snack
11.45-12.15pm Children get ready for lunchtime – they join the rest of the Infant department in the School Hall (see Lower School menu below)
12.30-3.30pm Afternoon
3.00pm Afternoon snack
3.30-4.30pm Extended stay 1 (24 hours notice required*)
3.30-6.00pm Extended stay 2 (includes tea, 48 hours notice required*)

*Completed booking forms to be handed to the Lower School office. Bookings dependent on whether spaces are available. Cancellation of sessions requires 24 hours notice, with the exception of extended stay 2. More information on sessions and prices can be found here

Lower School day

8.00am School opens for breakfast club (no pre-booking required)
8.25am The school gate opens for Year 5 and 6 girls (younger siblings may also enter at this time)
8.30am Year 3 and 4 girls enter (younger siblings may also enter)
8.35am Year 1, 2 and Prep enter
8.40am Bell rings for the start of the school day
8.45-8.50am Registration
8.55-9.15am Assemblies are held every morning in the School Hall. Girls are encouraged to bring in certificates to be presented. Please let us know of any outside school achievements, for example swimming certificates, dancing medals or riding rosettes. Stickers are presented to ‘birthday girls’.
9.15-10.15am Lessons
10.15-10.30am Outdoor play. Milk or water with a small snack is provided for all the girls. Fresh fruit is provided for infant girls. In addition to their snack, junior girls may bring a piece of fruit from home.
10.30-11.40am (infants) 10.30am-12.10pm (juniors) Lessons
11.40am-12.10pm (infants) 12.20-1.15pm (juniors Infant lunch. A hot meal with vegetarian and salad options is served in the School Hall in a ‘family dining’ setting where staff help serve the girls.
12.10-12.45pm (infants) Infant girls return to class after lunch
12.45-1.15pm Infant and Junior playtime
1.15-3.00pm (infants) 1.15-3.25pm (juniors) Lessons
3.00-3.25pm (infants) Activity Time is only available for infant girls waiting for older sisters or siblings in Kindergarten.
3.30-4.30pm Selection of optional after-school clubs (see clubs timetable below)
3.30-4.30pm Extended stay 1 (24 hours notice required*)
3.30-6.00pm Extended stay 2 (includes tea, 48 hours notice required for Prep and Year 1, 24 hours notice for Year 2-6*)

St Mary’s Activities in the School Holidays (SMASH)

SMASH runs for four weeks in the summer holidays, a week in the Christmas holidays, a week in the Easter holidays and each half term. Days run from 9.30am-3pm with the option of an early start from 8.30am and late finish of 4.30pm. Individual days or whole weeks can be booked. Sessions often include arts and crafts, drama, sports, adventure, games and outings. Full details are sent out to parents in advance of each holiday with information on how to book. Please see the SMASH booklet below for an example of the programme.

8.00-8.50am School opens to students
8.50-8.55am Registration
8.55-9.10am Assembly or form time
9.10-10.10am Lessons
10.10-10.25am Break
10.25-12.30pm Lessons (including enrichment activities, see enrichment guide below)
12.30-1.30pm Lunch (hot and cold options provided, see menu below) and clubs (see PE clubs list below)
1.30-1.35pm Registration
1.35-3.40pm Lessons
3.45-4.45pm Homework club (Mondays to Thursdays, drinks and snacks provided, no pre-booking required*)
