Year 7 Admissions Timeline

The usual entry point to St Mary’s Senior School is at 11+, to Year 7, and our admissions process is devised to give girls and their parents a chance to get to know the school.

ENTRY TO YEAR 7 IN SEPTEMBER 2020

Visit us! We are very pleased to welcome girls and their parents to our Open Days, which take place every Spring and Autumn, to get a feel for the school and to ask any questions. Individual tours are also available – please contact our Registrar to make an appointment.

The next step is to register. Please complete the Registration Form, which can be found at the back of the school prospectus. This should please be returned to the Registrar with the non-returnable Registration Fee of £50. We recommend early registration in case of over-subscription. Prospective pupils must be registered before they are eligible to sit the Entrance Assessment.

September / October 2019: Taster Days for Year 7 External Candidates

We recommend that girls experience being a ‘St Mary’s girl for a day’ before sitting the entrance assessment, to familiarise themselves with the school and to help them to decide whether or not St Mary’s is the school for them.

11 October 2019: Deadline for Scholarship Applications

Scholarships are available in Music, Art, Drama and Sport – application forms are available from the Registrar. Academic Scholarships may not be applied for, but are offered on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the Entrance Assessment. Miss Comrie Scholarships are by invitation only and cannot be applied for.

9 November 2019: Entrance Assessment and Sport Scholarship Assessment

The entrance assessment consists of papers in English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning. St Mary’s is a non-selective school, but the entrance assessment allows our staff the opportunity to gauge the suitability of the school for the prospective pupil and is used as the basis for setting in Year 7. Pupils who perform exceptionally well in the entrance assessment may be considered for an Academic Scholarship.

Candidates wishing to be considered for scholarship awards must have applied in advance and will be invited to the assessment day on the strength of their application. Please contact the Registrar for more details of the format of non-academic scholarship assessments.

4-22 November 2019: Entrance Interviews

All candidates are interviewed by the Principal. Candidates are asked to bring an item of importance to them and be prepared to speak about it.
