We offer a broad and balanced Physical Education (PE) curriculum at St Mary’s. The aim of the PE department is to maintain and stimulate interest and enjoyment in PE, and to promote health and fitness for current and future lifestyles.
Through participation in PE, our students develop their self-confidence and a sense of responsibility for their own actions and the effects on themselves and others. We offer a wide range of clubs and teams and promote competition at all levels of ability.
We begin by introducing new skills and developing existing ones with a view to students becoming competent and confident in a range of activities.
As students progress, we focus more on the rules and tactics of the games and encourage students to look at explaining how different fitness components benefit a performer. We then begin to focus on developing more accurate performances and students are encouraged to apply their knowledge in tactical game play and in fitness through the introduction of the multi-gym.
We provide students with the chance to take on a variety of roles, including performer, coach and umpire. We also provide students with the opportunity to take part in the St Mary’s Sport’s Leader Award, where they can develop and enhance their leadership skills, culminating in helping to run the Lower School Sports day.
To see our sports facilities and find out more about our PE department, including the variety of sports on offer, please come along to one of our upcoming Open Mornings or arrange a private tour at a time that’s convenient for you.
