Snowy book recommendation

The books have arrived for our book sale (see my post of 20 February) and all was looking good until we had to make the sad decision to postpone our World Book Day celebrations until next Thursday, 8 March. Let’s hope the weather will be better by then.

In the meantime, once you’ve finished building your snowmen, some of you – well those below the age of 14 or so, might like to snuggle up with a (surprisingly) seasonal book. I have in mind Frost Hollow Hall by Emma Carroll.

It’s a ghost story is set in the winter of 1881 concerning a young girl Tilly who is dared to go on the lake in the grounds of Frost Hollow Hall.

“She knows the ice is dangerous as Kit Barrington the young heir to the Hall drowned there. When the ice inevitably breaks and Tilly falls through Kit Barrington’s ghost appears in the water and saves her. Kit needs Tilly to solve a mystery so that his spirit can rest in peace…she soon discovers all manner of dark secrets…”

It’s slightly scary but more chilling and mysterious than frightening.
