International Women’s Day 2022 celebrated across St Mary’s

9 March 2022

On Tuesday 8 March 2022, St Mary’s marked International Women’s Day. the Lower School girls came to school dressed in the suffragette colours of purple, green and white. The theme for International Women’s Day 2022 was ‘Break The Bias’, calling for people to strike the IWD #BreakTheBias pose, crossing arms to show solidarity.

The Senior School students have been learning about inspirational female role models such as STEM icon Anne-Marie Imafidon, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, the first female mayor in England and Isabella Bird, the first woman to be elected Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

At St Mary’s we are passionate about providing an environment free from gender stereotyping and we actively encourage the students here to pursue any subject or career choice they desire. We purposely provide the girls with positive female role models, particularly in fields where women are still under-represented.
