World Book Day encourages a love of reading

3 March 2022

On Thursday 3 March, Kindergarten children and Lower School girls celebrated World Book Day with a colourful array of costumes and book-themed activities with the Senior School students creating book cover bunting and exploring new titles at a book sale.

Fantastic Mr Fox and Little Red Riding Hood stopped by to enjoy a story in Kindergarten, whilst the Lower School was privileged to have the likes of the Tiger who came to Tea, Hermione Granger and pupils from Malory Towers strolling casually around the corridors. There were even reports that the Queen of Hearts was spotted enjoying a lesson.

Kindergarten children enjoyed acting out stories while Lower School girls took part in illustration and writing workshops run by Dr Vassiliki Tzomaka, a visiting author.

The Senior School girls celebrated World Book Day by making book cover bunting and purchasing books at a lunchtime book sale. The School Library was buzzing with students browsing titles supplied by Colchester’s Red Lion Books. They had a wonderful time using their World Book Day vouchers against purchases. A new library app was also launched to Senior School students. The content is tailored to each year group with links to reading lists, quizzes, book reviews, educational videos and more! This new software enables the girls to check their loans, make reservations and search the entire School Library catalogue.

World Book Day gives an ideal opportunity for our youngest children in Kindergarten right the way through to Senior School students to celebrate, learn and share new favourite book titles.
