Saturday 15 January – Essex District Cross Country

It was a very cold and foggy morning for the Essex Cross Country event and we had three keen competitors! All the girls did incredibly well on a difficult course with tricky weather conditions. Gaby in year 9 came 54th in her age group, Rachel in year 11 came 34th and Elle, also in year 11, came 3rd! A fantastic achievement for all three girls and an extra special congratulations to Elle who will now go onto the next stage.

Tuesday 18 January – Year 9 basketball v Philip Morant

The Year 9 team played Philip Morant on Tuesday 18 January. The girls moved quickly to assert their command on the game, taking a good lead in the first quarter alone.

Defence was strong with Evie and Issy both providing an important outlet to resist any attacking play.

Counterattack was strong with many opportunities to score taken advantage of with some great baskets.

Final score 34-5 win to St Mary’s.

Well done to the whole team!

Wednesday 19 January – Year 10 Basketball v St Benedict’s College

We started the game, and it took a few minutes to get into it however when we did, we played well.

The first quarter we mainly concentrated on defence. Our team is very good at defending and jumping for rebounds however again it did take a few minutes to get into the game. In the first quarter St Benedict’ s scored 6 points and Lucia scored 2 points for our team.

In the second quarter our teamwork improved, and we did not panic as much when we had the ball. St Benedict’s had 18 points and our St Mary’s Sharks remained with the 2 points at the end of the first half.

In the third quarter we kept up our good defending skills. We had many opportunities to shoot however, we could not place them in the basket, but we kept up good morale. At the end of the third quarter St Benedict’s had 26 points and we remained with 2 points. We realised that we were not going to win, however this did not get us down. We kept trying as hard as we did in all other quarters very much concentrating on our defence making sure they got in as little baskets as possible and with our hard work St Benedict’s didn’t manage to get any points, in the last quarter. So the final results were 26-2 to St Benedict’s.

Everyone played very well!
