Beauty and the Beast panto wows audiences

13 December 2019

Well known fairy tale characters were welcomed to St Mary’s Senior School for ‘a tale as old as time’ Beauty and the Beast!

For their showcase winter production, students from Years 8-11 and staff from a variety of departments, all worked together to produce this glitz and glamour extravaganza with spectacular results! Audiences of proud parents, grandparents and siblings along with Lower School pupils and guests from local residential homes were thrilled to see the exploits of Belle, Dame Dolly and the Beast, and happily applauded as the tale unfolded. The highly anticipated show offered a perfect mix of beautiful musical pieces and comedy moments.

The girls all shone in their roles with Year 11s providing the lead parts. Isla and Laura gave outstanding performances as Belle and the Beast, with Head Girl, Emily encouraging oodles of audience participation as Dame Dolly. There were some beautiful solo pieces with a ‘sing-off’ between the villain Belladonna the Witch, played by Emilia, and Sophie as good fairy Pandora.

The main cast were wonderfully supported by the Year 10 and 11 inhabitants of ‘Happyville’ and the Year 8 and 9 students made suitably creepy-then-cute ‘Guardians of the Forest’.

“The cast acted with charm and maturity, and on occasions brought the house down with their comic timing and amazing singing” said Mrs Vipond, Principal, “All in all, the experience was one of enjoyment and laughter, as all the best pantos should be!”
