Tuesday 3 December:

Year 7 Netball v Colchester High School

On Tuesday 3 December, seven girls from Year 7 took part in a netball match against Colchester High School. It was a tight game as Colchester High School managed to score six goals, but still St Mary’s took the lead, scoring two more goals leaving the overall score as 6-8 to St Mary’s. The netballers who took part in the match were: Claudia, Erin, Lucy, Jemima, Lauren, Isabelle and Imogen. At the end of the game, Colchester High School chose their Player of the Match who was Imogen. Well done to all the girls that took part and thank you to all the PE staff who organised the match.

Year 8 Netball v Colchester High School

We managed to play this fixture at home before it got too dark!

The girls played particularly well in the second quarter and almost equalled the goals, but then sadly lost 16-8. Some lovely shooting from Hannah and Scarlett.

Well done everyone.

Wednesday 4 December

Year 8 Basketball v Stanway School

Despite the score line the game was not all one sided! The students were a little phased at the start by the height of the opposition, but improved with each quarter as they gained in confidence and even won the last quarter. It was great to see such a positive attitude and if we played like we did in the last quarter, and a few more of our shots went in, we could have come away with a good result.

Final score was 6-20

Tonight’s game with Stanway was a good test of team spirit, Stanway played very well. This team were all very tall. I think next time we come across a team like this we need to make sure that we don’t do long passes as it’s very easy for the other team to intercept. When we are defending a team, we really need to make sure that we are as close as possible to the player to really put them off. We need to make sure that we think fast so that we have enough time to pass or shoot before the defenders are coming our way. Something else we could work on for next time is getting into a better spacing so that we are close enough for a bounce pass if needed. Our team played well in tonight’s game and learned a lot for the future.
