Year 6 Visit Houses of Parliament

7 November 2019

Year 6 pupils enjoyed a fabulous day in London on Wednesday 6 November visiting the Palace of Westminster for a guided tour of the House of Commons and House of Lords (passing Boris Johnson delivering an address to the press outside Downing Street on the way!) followed by a workshop about democracy and the people’s power to vote, linked to our History topic of The Suffragettes and Votes for Women.

The girls also stopped at the Museum of London to explore the artefacts and exhibits linked to the Suffragette movement, where the girls learned more about the lengths and methods women used to secure the vote. They were particularly interested in the quilt embroidered in the Suffragette colours (white, green and purple), listing the 80 women who endured the harsh hunger strikes for the cause.
