Year 9 Netball v Stanway School (home)
The Year 9s played in a fast-paced game against Stanway School, taking an early lead in the first quarter, and continued to extend their lead in the second quarter. A more focussed attacking approach and tighter defence from Stanway saw them level in the third quarter. With it all to play for in the final quarter, it continued to be tight with one team scoring and then the other, unfortunately for us, Stanway scored the final goal giving them the win 12-11.
Well done to all who played, great spirit and teamwork were shown throughout.

Wednesday 16 October:
Year 9 District Netball Tournament
The Year 9s played again on Wednesday evening, but this time in the District Netball Tournament. Their first game was a friendly against the Gilberd School U16B team, despite being in the next age band, we took on the challenge and started confidently with a quick couple of goals, we extended our lead and won 5-2.
The team then went on to play Stanway School and won 9-2. Their final game in the pool was against St Benedict’s College, but despite some good play, they struggled with the height of the players and the ball being thrown over their heads, losing 2-4. Two wins was enough for the team to get through to the semis where they played Colchester County High School for Girls, where again despite some positive play and great determination they lost 5-4. Well done to everyone who played.

U16 District Netball Tournament
The U16 team played in the District Netball Tournament and The Gilberd School on Wednesday 16 October. They played every match with maximum effort and motivation and won the first match against St Benedict’s College by a convincing 10-2. They then took on Thurstable School which were by far the toughest opposition and conceded 2-8. Undeterred, they beat Stanway School in an evenly weighted match 7-5 but were sadly defeated by The Gilberd School, meaning they did not proceed to the semi-finals.
Super play from the whole team, particularly in defence where Iona and Millie (who played up a Year Group) were very strong.

Thursday 17 October:
Year 9 Basketball v The Gilberd School (away)
On Thursday 17 October, the Year 9 team took on the Gilberd School in their first basketball game of the season! The Gilberd started strongly in the first two quarters and by half time were 20-0 up. In the third quarter we focussed more on our defence as the team got more used to playing on an full size indoor court, which made for a much more competitive game only allowing The Gilberd to score 3 baskets to our 1. In the final quarter we continued to improve and had lots of chances on basket but unfortunately were only able to make 1 more count. Final score 34-4, well done to the team! Lots of positives and learning experience to take from the game.
