A windy and overcast day did not deter the enthusiasm of the students at our annual school sports day on Thursday 13 June!
Determined girls from Year 3 to Year 10 took part in track and field events throughout the day. There were some truly excellent performances and a number of St Mary’s records were smashed!
School house Balkernegate were the overall winners for the second year in a row. Balkernegate Sports Captain Imogen said “I’m thrilled we won! Everyone did so well and we had great fun competing and cheering each other on.”
The girls took part in discuss, javelin, shotput, high jump and long jump, as well as races from 100m to 1500m and relay.
“There was a positive and supportive atmosphere throughout the day with a great balance of competitiveness and sportsmanship,” said Mrs Hilary Vipond, Principal at St Mary’s. “It was a spectacular event and it was lovely to see all the family and friends who came to support the girls.”
