24 November 2018
A number of mature and thoughtful questions were asked by Years 10 and 11 when they visited Auschwitz on a GCSE History and RE visit to Kraków from Wednesday 21 to Friday 23 November.
The trip complements their studies in both subjects and Citizenship topics covered in PSHEE. Included in the schedule were thought-provoking visits to the Jewish Quarter of Kraków, Oskar Schindler’s Factory, KZ Plaszow Concentration Camp and Auschwitz-Birkenau. The students explored the Galicia Jewish Museum and had the privilege of meeting a Holocaust survivor. As this was such a poignant tour, the girls had time for relaxation, with local dining each evening. To offer an uplifting end to a challenging few days, they enjoyed an awe-inspiring visit to the Salt Mines at Wiekiczka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which houses a full-size cathedral underground.
