Year 8 Netball v The Gilberd School (home)
Our highly motivated and positive Year 8 netball team played The Gilberd School in a friendly at home on Tuesday 25 September. The team began strongly, and by the end of the first quarter were 6-1 up. With Amelia coaching from the side-line, St Mary’s continued to use their space on the court well and provided our shooters with many opportunities. With a 9-2 lead by the end of the first half, we swapped round five of the teams’ positions – after taking a few minutes to settle into their new roles on court, the students soon pulled further away and ended up winning 16-3. Congratulations to everyone who played, in particular Eliana and Grace who were nominated by the apposing team as the two Recognised Players and to Charlotte for her excellent shooting.
Year 8 Netball teams v Colchester County High School for Girls (home)
On the evening of Thursday 27 September, two very eager Year 8 teams hosted Colchester County High School for Girls. In the first quarter, both teams saw CCHSG take an early lead with St Mary’s losing possession, which consequently led to some very accurate shooting from CCHSG. In the second quarter, both teams were determined to improve and made some great interceptions, with Louisa’s team pulling back some of the advantage gained by CCHSG. Despite continuing to work hard, and trying not to let the frustrations of defending against some very tall players get the better of us, CCHSG continued to pull away. Although both teams unfortunately lost, Mrs Hawkins was impressed with the teams’ continued effort and support of each other against such a challenging opposition.
