The world’s greatest science festival

20 September 2018

Senior - New-Scientist-Live-2018-14Year 10 students went to the New Scientist Live exhibition at London ExCel on Thursday 20 September.  They took part in the Slime Olympics, entered the inflatable Planetarium, danced with robots and tried some eco-friendly glitter face painting.  The highlight of the day was listening to fascinating talks from explorers Tim Peake, Nics Wetherill and Will Millard.  Tim talked about his time on the space station, telling the girls how the view of earth from the station was one of the most moving things in his life, conveying both the insignificance of the individual and the fragility of the planet we live on.  He also let us in on how much the astronauts loved to grab an orange when fresh deliveries arrived because the smell of the orange was so intense.  They would keep the orange with them for as long as possible to enjoy the smell!  All three explorers impressed the need for students to get out there and do the things they love.
