Year 10 Rounders v St Helena School (away)
On Wednesday 16 May, our Year 10 Rounders team played St Helena School. Starting strongly in the first innings, we quickly got three players out and kept the score down to 5 ½ rounders. Some good battling and confident running saw our team increase the score to 10 rounders. In the second innings we again put in a strong fielding performance, eventually getting the whole team out. With only one batter remaining, and both teams level on points, Tabby Weston kept her head and scored some great rounders and half rounders off no balls. Final score St Mary’s: 14 ½ – St Helena: 11 ½.
Year 8 and Year 10 Rounders v The Gilberd School (away)
Both our Year 8 and Year 10 Rounders teams visited The Gilberd School on Thursday 17 May.
The first innings was a closely fought contest between the Year 8 teams, with equally balanced skills in batting and fielding. With one match under the St Mary’s team’s belt, the girls were more confident in the field, taking a slight lead at the half-way point. The second innings saw some superb catching skills, diminishing the opposition to one player and securing a win for us! Final score St Mary’s: 7 ½ – The Gilberd: 6 ½. Many thanks to Alannah Boone and Darcy Carroll for stepping in at the last minute!
The Year 10 rounders team started with a close first innings with the score tied at 7 ½ all. We only managed to score a further four rounders in the second innings, so strong fielding was vital as The Gilberd had some powerful hitters. Our team were up for the challenge and turned things around on their return to the field with a more focussed approach. Ellen Longhurst and Amelia Nelson (as backstop and first base respectively) worked well together to catch out The Gilberd players in quick succession. Final score St Mary’s: 11 ½ – The Gilberd: 9.
Well done to all who played this week.
