28 March 2018
On Tuesday 28 March, 15 of our Year 7s attended the Big Bang @ Essex 2018 Fair at the University of Essex. This exciting event is for young people to get an insight into science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects and careers.
The girls took part in two workshops and had a go at hands-on planning techniques and testing water pipes to supply a large area with an equal pressure with Anglian Water. They had special access to the robotics lab at the University, where they saw a variety of amazing robotic animals! Here the girls also tried out the Virtual Reality (VR) goggles and computer simulations.
A highlight was a visit to the Marketplace, where the girls were able to chat to various stallholders about their careers (and pick up some free goodie bags!). These included the Environment Agency, Civil Engineering companies, the RAF, the Royal Society for Biology, the NHS, Affinity Water, and many more. The day ended with a lecture about genetics and the students returned to school buzzing with enthusiasm.
A day of the Easter break well spent at such an interesting event!
