Girl in a classroom at Prep Class At St Mary's Colchester in Essex

English Speaking Board Competition

21 March 2018

ESB

On Wednesday 21 March a team of six Year 4 girls represented St Mary’s at a Public Speaking competition led by the English Speaking Union at Anglia Ruskin University. Our chosen topic was why “Books are better than television” in a minute-long speech. They were then asked questions relating to their topic. Our Questioner then had to listen carefully to the opposing team’s speech and pose thoughtful questions. The judges praised the quality of the contributions and the standard of all participants. All girls were an absolute credit to the school and competing against 14 teams from a range of schools, the St Mary’s team finished a fantastic second behind a team from St Cedd’s. Well done on a super achievement!

Representing St Mary’s: Niamh (Captain), Tomisin (Chairperson), Sienna (Speaker), Arabel (Questioner), Amelia (Poetry Reader), Poppy (Management).
