Football reports week beginning 12 March 2018

19 March 2018

On Tuesday 13 March the U16 football team played in the first round of the league tournament, determined to improve on their performances last year. A very close first game against Stanway saw us eventually lose 1-0. Their next game against Gilberd, a very strong passing side, saw us defending for most of the game with some exceptional saves by Lizzy, which meant we only conceded two goals. However, in true style, this did not dampen our spirits and only further inspired the team to score – which they did repeatedly with a 6-0 win over St Helena School. This positive result brought more chances on goal against our next opponents TLA and, although we were only able to convert one of the attempts, this was still enough to win. A superb effort from all involved and we look forward to seeing more success in the next round on Monday 19 March.

On Thursday 15 March the Year 9 footballers played their district netball semi-final against Colchester County High School for Girls. The first quarter, was close, with CCHSG taking a 5-4 lead. In the second quarter St Mary’s started to rush their play and lose possession, and this was capitalised on by CCHSG, who, with some superb shooting, took a quick 15-6. Despite St Mary’s picking up their play in the final two quarters, we were unable to catch CCHSG and eventually lost 18-24. Well done to all who played.
