Keen St Mary’s swimmer Adrienne, was delighted to be part of the Colchester Water Polo Club team who secured silver medals at the ASA East Region Championship Finals in Basildon on Saturday 4 November.
Adrienne in Year 7 is relatively new to the sport, having only begun playing a year ago. She was ecstatic that she helped her team win a silver in the Water Polo Grand Prix, the first rounds took place in Northampton and the finals in Basildon. Sporting her new lightning bolt swimming kit, she competed with over 150 players. Having been a keen swimmer since an early age, Adrienne has gained her 1000 metre and one mile swimming badges. Adrienne who plays on the right-hand side in the pool said “A lot of girls don’t play water polo so it’s important to me to take part. At my club there are only five girls, but at least 20 boys. I am very much looking forward to playing more matches, hopefully winning a gold next time!”
Colchester Junior Water Polo Club was set up two years ago and now has as many as 40 juniors on their books. They train in the main pool at Colchester Leisure World and have a diving pit for beginners with training and matches taking place in the main pool at which there can be upwards of 25 participants.
