Our netball teams have been busy!
Tuesday 10 October
The U14s took to the court with enthusiasm and determination at the U14 Netball Tournament at The Gilberd School, winning their first game 5-7 in a closely fought match. Although shooters Francesca and Pippa worked together to score some excellent goals alongside some strong attacking play, the team were unfortunately defeated by Thurstable and Stanway School in the next two games. Their last match against St Benedict’s College ended in a 10-0 victory, however they did not proceed to the semi-finals on this occasion.
The U16 team’s match against St Benedict’s College started a little frantically, resulting in three quick scores by our opponent, however the girls found their form and clawed the score back, resulting in a 4-4 draw. In their second game against Stanway, they were unable to make the opportunities count and despite having the majority of play, lost 0-4. A place in the semi-finals rested on the next game against the Gilberd. The girls were equal to the task and won the game 10-1, unfortunately St Benedict’s beat Stanway, putting St Mary’s out of the competition. Well done to all the girls who played, it was great to see such positivity and teamwork.
Wednesday 11 October
The U16B Netball team played TLA on Wednesday. Educational commitments kept a few players from being able to play in the match, despite this, the girls worked well and soon settled into their positions. Defence was as strong as ever, and centre court players kept the ball flowing to our shooters, resulting in a 30-1 win. Congratulations to all who played, with a particular mention to Amelia who made her debut as GA and Luna – both proved great assets to the team.
