It’s been a while since I posted anything but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been busy. Quite the opposite! I’ve been stock-taking and buying new books – mainly fiction titles to keep up with the demand for contemporary fiction. As I like to read all the new fiction books I buy I gave myself quite a task – a pleasurable one but quite demanding!
Last night I finished “Wolf Hollow” by Lauren Wolk which is currently shortlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal 2017. A very compelling read indeed although I found myself slightly traumatised by the fate that befalls one of the central characters. I have a very vivid imagination and although the book doesn’t go into detail I plugged the gaps far too heartily for my liking! I should be very surprised if other people were affected in the same way though so it is highly recommended – it’s simply well written and honest – don’t expect “fluffy”.
Another recommended recent read is “Goldfish Boy” by Lisa Thompson which on the face of it is a story involving a boy with severe OCD. Think “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” by Mark Haddon with added serious mystery/crime.
I am planning to include both titles in my summer recommended reading list that I will be compiling within the next few weeks.
