Girls in Years 7 to 10 have been challenged to grow their own edible gardens!
Each form has received a starter kit comprising a bag of compost and several plants, which they may supplement to make sure that each garden contains six different varieties of ‘grub’. Nasturtiums and marigolds, herbs, vegetables, strawberries and fast-growing seeds, such as cress and salad leaves, have been popular choices. The ‘tubs’ have ranged from old wicker picnic hampers to fabric drawer units, which the girls will decorate.
The best entry in each year group will be chosen on 16 June and these winners will then be entered into the schools’ competitions at the Tendring Show and Marks Hall Garden and Country Show.
