To celebrate World Thinking Day, pupils from the Lower School have joined over 10 million other Girls Guides, Girl Scouts, Brownies and Rainbows from 150 countries to mark this day of international friendship. The girls spent the day at school dressed in their uniforms to feel connected with the worldwide sisterhood of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting, and to be inspired by the history of the global Movement, and the impact it has on the lives of members and their communities.

The history of World Thinking Day dates back to 1926, when at the fourth World Conference, it was agreed that 22 February would be known as a special day for Girls Guides and Girl Scouts all over the world. The delegates chose this date because it was the birthday of both Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scout Movement, and Olave Baden-Powell, who was the World Chief Guide.

St Mary’s pupils (and staff!) enjoy participating in this special international day on an annual basis, it gives them the chance to think of each other and express their thanks and appreciation for the World Association for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).
