Colchester Rotary Club Young Chef Competition

22 November 2019

Year 10 Food and Nutrition students Georgina, Laura and Isabelle entered the Colchester heat of the Rotary Young Chef Competition on Thursday 21 November at Colchester Institute’s Centre for Hospitality and Food Studies. The girls rose to the challenge of planning and preparing a three-course healthy meal in two hours, costing less than £20. Laura was delighted to be crowned the winner and secured her place in the district round in February with her dishes of courgette and spring onion soup, chicken breast wrapped in Parma ham, and lemon posset. Georgina and Isabelle were very worthy runners up. The girls really enjoyed the opportunity to develop their food presentation skills, gain experience in high pressure situations and work in a commercial catering kitchen.

The Rotary Young Chef competition, sponsored by Filippo Berio, gives entrants the chance to put their culinary skills to the test and be judged by leading industry professionals.
