St Mary’s superb Junior Literary Festival continued today with a visit from Kes Gray, who not only demonstrated his skill as a children’s author but also revealed his secret super power – throwing biscuits! Despite the fact that Rich Teas are the most aerodynamic in the biscuit tin, Kes challenged himself to flick a Ginger Nut right over the roof of the Drama Studio – and succeeded! A memorable – if messy – insight into the unlikely places Kes finds inspiration for his stories!
Before that he entranced the audience of Junior pupils from St Mary’s Lower School, Mersea Island School and Kelvedon St Mary’s Primary Academy with the tales behind some of his most popular children’s books, particularly the Daisy series (including the Children’s Book Award winning Eat Your Peas), the Oi books, the stories of Nellie the monster baby sitter and Nuddy Ned!
Kes also read aloud the ‘emotional’ poem Toenails from his latest book, Fizz Bomb, a collection of stories written over the past ten years, a copy of which he kindly donated to St Mary’s Library.
