Year 9 Rounders v Philip Morant

Our Year 9 rounders team met Philip Morant School on Tuesday 5 June. Having lost the toss, we batted first and scored 2½ rounders. In the first fielding innings, Ciara made some great catches, limiting the opposition to 4½ rounders. During the second innings the girls got their eye in, and scored 4½ rounders, bringing us closer to Phillip Morant’s score of 5 rounders. Unfortunately we were unable to take the lead. Final score was St Mary’s 7, Phillip Morant 9½.

Year 8 Rounders v Philip Morant

Our Year 8s played a friendly match against Philip Morant School on Wednesday 6 June. With a slow start to the first innings and some cautious batting from St Mary’s, Philip Morant took the lead. The team turned things around in the second innings with some good hits and decisive running, backed up by much tighter fielding and some great catches, and we got the whole team out with 8 bats remaining. Final score 10½ to 4½ – a great win!

Year 8 and Year 9 Rounders v TLA

Four of the Year 8 players from Wednesday’s rounders match went on to play Thomas Lord Audley School on Thursday 7 June. Starting with the same enthusiasm they had shown at the end of the previous match, as well as some strong batting and good decisions in the field, the team quickly took a 7–3 ½ lead. In the second innings they worked well batting, helping each other to decide when to run, and went on to score a further 10 rounders! A slightly more nervous fielding team and some better hitting from TLA gave the opposition the chance to score some quick rounders, but we maintained our composure and came away with a 17-9½ win.

A confident Year 9 team met TLA. They batted well in the first innings to secure a score of 5 rounders to TLA’s 4½. This tight scoreline meant there was no room for complacency and in the second innings the girls worked closely both in field and in bat. This paid off and they came away with a victory of 13½-6.
