We are delighted to share the news that two Year 6, two Year 7 and nine St Mary’s Year 8 students have been awarded certificates in the Junior Mathematics Challenge, a one-hour, 25-question, problem-solving paper they tackled in the spring term.
This Challenge is primarily aimed at Year 8 students based in the UK. To recognise the highest performers in the Challenge, the top-scoring 40% of participants are awarded bronze, silver and gold certificates in the ratio 3:2:1. In addition to this the top 1200 of the very highest performers are invited to take part in the ‘Mathematical Olympiad’ and around 8,000 participants can take part in the ‘Junior Kangaroo’.
We are particularly proud of our Year 6 entrants Isabel who has been invited to take part in the ‘Mathematical Olympiad’, achieving best in school with a score of 112 out of 135 and Emily who has been invited to take part in the ‘Junior Kangaroo’ Round, scoring 87. Our Year 8 students were also triumphant with Carina achieving a Gold Certificate for scoring best in year, taking her through to the ‘Junior Kangaroo’ Round. Scarlett also achieved a Gold Certificate. Lily, Eloise, Lily, Georgia and Arianna achieved Silver Certificates and Sarah and Amelia achieved Bronze Certificates. Samika and Eliana in Year 7 were awarded Bronze Certificates with Eliana scoring best in year. Well done!
