14-year-old St Mary’s student Romilly stunned local golfers with her superb swing when she won the Ted Turner Family Foursomes Tournament on Saturday 9th September at Colchester Golf Club.
Romilly, from Colchester, alongside her dad Steve, rose to victory at the tournament, beating over 25 pairs of competitors of all ages.
“This is a really prestigious trophy so my dad and I are very pleased to have won,” said Romilly. “I began playing golf when I was 13, and I feel I have exceeded my own expectations of my performance.”
Romilly is a very positive student and a key team member in a variety of sports at St Mary’s. Romy recently won this year’s ‘longest drive’ competition at the school’s annual PTA Golf Tournament, which students were invited to take part in for the first time, beating experienced adult players.
St Mary’s Head of PE, Miss Emma Hawkins, remarked: “Romy has taken PE as a GCSE subject this year of which golf is a practical activity option. I am looking forward to hearing about her continuing improvements to her current playing handicap of 23.”
