There was plenty of cheerfulness and resilience on display when our Years 9 and 10 Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants tackled their Practice Expedition at Leiston on the weekend of 29 and 30 April.
A couple of the groups had some navigational ‘hiccups’ on Saturday, but tents were pitched successfully in the right spot at the end of the day and a variety of meals were whipped up on the trangias. The evening was very sociable, with one group of students finding the energy for an impromptu game of rounders using a stick and fir cone, and another hosting a birthday party in their tent – even icing a chocolate cake and producing party hats from within one of the rucksacks!
The navigation was done expertly by all of the groups on Sunday and the girls returned home tired, but victorious. The Qualifying Expedition takes place later this month.
