Year 6
In Year 6 we encourage our girls to grow more independent in their learning and their approach to life. As the oldest year group in the Lower School, this year brings with it many responsibilities; all girls will have the opportunity to take on a role, ranging from librarians and prefects to our two Head Girls. Such positions promote a mature and conscientious attitude which is delightful to see developing, and the girls have an active voice in making decisions, be it devising and running stalls at our fetes or running house assemblies.
We have a varied and flexible curriculum, benefitting from specialist teachers in dance, PE, Languages, Music and ICT. Our girls are set for Maths, Logic and Reading, in order to ensure all girls continue to develop their skills and understanding. Our topics include an introduction to politics and the importance of the democratic system and Shakespeare and the theatre of his time, both of which include scope for independent study.
In ICT, the gilrs are introduced to e-Folio, our Virtual Learning Platform. Our present year 6s who move onto the Senior School will be taking it up with them . The girls can access their e-Folio accounts via this link.

Throughout the year sporting activities abound, both on an individual and group basis. We enjoy inter-house challenges, scoring points towards the House Cup.Currently there is a Running and a Rounders club.
Musical and theatrical events are staged throughout the year, inspiring the girls to perform in front of varied and sizeable audiences. In the Summer Term we have our Junior production, in which the Year 6 girls take the principal roles, boosted by Years 3 - 5.
We go on a number of enjoyable outings locally and further afield. This year we have attended the theatre, including The Globe, and experienced a week in the stunning landscape of Malham Tarn in Yorkshire. CLoser to home, we have visited Manningtree and Colchester Zoo, and local MP Priti Patel came to speak to us here at St. Mary's.
Year 6 is also about preparing the girls to move on to secondary educatin. This will include close links with our Senior School and taster days, as well as practice for entrance exams and the 11+.
