Year 7 Mersea Youth Camp Trip

girls on a Mersea Youth Camp Trip

We waved off our new Year 7 students for their overnight stay at Mersea Youth Camp at Essex Outdoors on Friday 15 September.  This trip was to help develop social and teamwork skills and provide the opportunity to challenge their personal physical abilities. With anticipation and excitement in the air, the girls boarded the school buses and headed to the east of Mersea Island for the start of their activities.  The students were shown the brand new purpose-built Tented Village (their accommodation for the night) followed by a briefing with the staff, they soon got stuck in to the various activity sessions available to them.

The girls took part in some fantastic challenges on the Adventure Course that really tested their resilience, inner-strength and physical enthusiasm.  These included team problem-solving exercises, wall climbing, high ropes, archery and the grand finale of an ‘It’s a Knockout’ competition which saw the students tackling inflatable, and sometimes wet, obstacle courses and a duel combat-style contest to see who could be the last girl standing.

For entertainment on Saturday evening, the Prefects led hilarious party-style games including a music quiz, the Egyptian ‘mummy game’ and even musical statues.

Miss Alison Tew, Head of Year 7 praised the students: “the girls were so well behaved and took everything in their stride. They worked fantastically in their team groups as well as pushing themselves to achieve personal success”.

We were delighted to welcome parents for the afternoon tea on the Saturday when they collected their daughters.  The girls were brimming with enthusiasm and were eager to share their stories about a fabulous couple of days.
