Trips, Clubs & Activities

Learning doesn't only take place in the classroom. Pupils at St Mary's take part in a huge number of trips, visits, clubs and activities, all designed to increase their understanding of the world and to introduce them to new skills and interests.

Trips and visits

Each year group benefits from a range of inspiring and enriching visits linked to the academic curriculum. Pupils learn about their local area with a focus on the rich history of Colchester as well as its geography and people through practical educational sessions. They also travel further afield to London and other regions of the UK to sites of relevance to the pupils’ learning. A residential trip in Year 6 is a highlight – friendships are cemented and memories are made!

Clubs and activities

From debating to mindfulness, there are clubs and activities to suit all interests at St Mary’s. Our after-school sports clubs are extremely popular – particularly tennis, multi-sports, cross-country running and football. The Drama Club is popular with the upper Junior pupils, who work towards an impressive production in the Spring Term, while the Theatre Arts Academy run very popular sessions on a Saturday morning at our Senior School and during school holidays (telephone 07715 324267 for more information).

Music and drama lessons

A team of experienced peripatetic music teachers offer individual lessons in a range of instruments. These are taken in school time and charged with the termly fees. LAMDA speech and drama tuition is also offered on the same basis. For more information, please contact the school office.

Breakfast Club

The popular daily Breakfast Club begins at 8am and is designed to help busy families. Children enjoy a light breakfast and a chance to catch up with friends before the school day. The cost of £2.75 per day is invoiced each half term in arrears - no need to book in advance.

Childcare for pupils aged 4 to 6 is available at the Kindergarten daily from 3.25pm to 6.30pm and for childred aged 6 to 11 in the After School Room daily from 3.25pm to 6.00pm. Any sessions that finish after 5.30pm include a light tea.
